Social Privilege

Privilege is a social category which has a lot in common with inequality. In general, it is a material or spiritual advantage of one social class over the others. The most frequently it refers to people who have all opportunities to get education at prestigious establishments, rent a nice expensive flat, buy a house, and not to be particularly restricted in anything. Turning to the spiritual dimension, privilege here is belonging to socially secure community like native people which become more and more opposed to all the foreigners, immigrants, national and racial minorities due to the globalization. Privileged social classes frequently underline their differences from those unstable and unprotected by the government. Such behavior often results in hostility between social groups and damage done by haters and those who envy privileged classes.

Certain physical characteristics can also divide people into privileged and excluded. Here belong gender, age, physical abilities, state of health etc.. It is quite obvious when we come to discrimination of women who are deprived of generously payed workplaces because they are weaker than men and are more vulnerable before the damaging factors. Also aging people must be mentioned in this group as turning on the wrong side of sixty they are unlikely to preserve their job-place and will be forced into retirement.

Social privilege is a concept developed in human mind which draws connection with the reality. It is not a separate policy supported by government, it is rather a complex of all fragments of the social policy put together. Privilege turns to be a negative phenomenon of social life as it is tightly bound to the inequality of people.
