Should we eliminate winning and losing in children’s games?



In a traditional model of education children are taught to compete with their peers from an early age. Previously no harm has been detected in this methodology but today more educators think on destructive effect of rivalry which kids see over all kinds of competitions. It concerns not only sporting events but also studying process and interpersonal communication. Ambitious children forget about all other benefits they get from competition, and what is more important – that it is only a game, when they are deeply upset of losing or value themselves above anybody else when they win. To solve this problem psychologists suggest to implement more games without scores so that children realized that competition also involves fair behavior and team spirit.

Banning score in all competitions is rather a weird step as teams compete with the exact aim to define who is the best. Nevertheless, approaching education of little children teachers and parents should practice some amount of gaming without scoring.
